Galand Nuchols grew up on a small farm in Southern Illinois. Some of the settings in her stories can be found on that farm. Such is the case of the first and last stories in the anthology Now Where Did That Come From?
The setting for The Losing Place was the family home built over a hundred years ago. The setting for Grandpa's Way was in the barn across the road from the house. It too is about a hundred years old.
Galand enjoys traveling and seeing new places and doing new things. In 2014 she and her sister took a cruise visiting Jamaica, Grand Cayman, and Cozumel. She swam with dolphins in Jamaica and visited a turtle sanctuary in Grand Cayman. The trip was a long awaited dream come true.
Last year she and her husband traveled east to the Carolinas and then north to Kentucky visiting with family and friends along the way. One of her memories is of sitting at a desk in a log school house where Sam Houston taught for two terms.
She enjoys sailing with her daughter, Marie and son-in-law, Pete. An annual weekend Mother/daughter retreat with Marie, Galand'stwo sisteers and their daughters is a special treat for all concerned. Last year they visited the Oklahoma City Museum and saw the Cholula glass exhibits.
Skyping with their son, his wife, and the precious granddaughter is a highlight of Galand and her husband's week. Being able to see them and share various projects over the internet is a real blessing for families living great distances apart.
A recent trip to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico was an adventure she had looked forward to for several years. Walking along the Malecon especially in the evening, is an exciting adventure. Paintings, clothing, food, and souvenirs are available and will bring back the thrilling days of that visit.
Galand and her husband made a road trip to visit their children in Nevada. Along the way they stopped at the Capelin Volcano National Park, Mesa Verde National Park, Zion National Forest, Durngo, and several other scenic and histoical sites. We Americans are blessed with fantastic National and State Parks. Be sure to take advantage of them in the near future.
Galand and her husband are active in Habitat for Humanity, an organization helping people who qualify build a decent, affordable place to call home. Check out our web site at www.mphabitat.com
Galand and her husband are active in their church programs and Bible Studies. They find the church family a strength in time of need, whatever form that need takes.
